And what happens next in this naked girl’s story? He shoots a bear, wears the skin in her mind. He shoots the bear because it ate his best friend and left his sorry family with a bear-eaten husband, bear-eaten father. And sure, that’s the main story but what about all that under-sinew and slippery marrow? Under the skin of the story there are these moments, times spent staring at one another, staring and not knowing the things we will miss later.
